Fixing Rudolph
The last verse of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed is deeply problematical. Rudolph is ridiculed and ostracized because he’s different- until that difference is useful to everybody. Do they even apologize? No!
Santa is complicit in this too. He knows if you’ve been bad or good, so there’s no plausible deniability. He’s equally guilty for standing by and doing nothing!
The song’s especially troubling for neurodiverse people who have hyper-focus and, show it with intense special interests. Suddenly that trait is in demand for detail-oriented tasks like accounting or computer work. But they’re still not good for anything else.
So here you go! You’re welcome to sing this… loudly at holiday sing-alongs. If you use it in a recording, be sure to credit me!
